Since we right-brainers are visually oriented, I thought it would be helpful to do a little “show and tell” from my new book, Organizing From The Right Side Of The Brain. This page contains photographs of the organizing tips featured in the book so you can see some of these ideas in action. (These pictures all come from my own home and office.)

You Can Do It
This is my desk and file cabinets. Neat and clean, huh? It didn't always look like this. If I can get organized, anyone can.
Keep It Simple
The easier something is to put away, the more likely you will. For receipts I simply drop them in that month's slot. Simple.

Create Activity Zones
I keep everything I need to write in one area. Yes, there is a TV and CD player. What can I say? Not all distractions are bad.

I Can See Clearly
I'm not afraid to put things away so long as I can still see them. That's why I use clear containers for storing almost everything.
Check, Please
Next to the phone is a bill paying center complete with checks, stamps and envelopes. (Bills are kept in a tickler file.)
Keep Paper Moving
A series of action files (center) keeps paper flowing in an out of my office almost effortlessly—as described in detail in my book.
Some Rules Suck
Not everything you haven't used in a year needs to be tossed. I keep graphic design magazines for years. (Bottom shelf.)
Positive Reminders
Good clutter are things that help you reach your goals. I keep my own books and awards on a shelf in my office for motivation.
Set Some Boundaries
My bulletin board is divided into zones so it doesn't get out of hand. It's for loose little pieces of paper that otherwise float around.
Things That Bind
I created a three binder system (with dividers) to organize a lot of the papers that would otherwise be in a piles on my desk.
Goal For It
Each picture on the page to the right represents one of my goals. There is also a caption for each one. I take this stuff seriously.
The One Page Business Plan
If you own a small business is it really necessary to create an elaborate business plan you will never look at again? I say "No".
Grab And Go
Using baskets, hooks and a shelf I keep everything I need to take with me when I leave by the door. It's improved my memory. (Wink.)
Do Something Useful
A piece of "worthless" clutter can get a second life if it's useful. This box is now used to corral all the remote controls.
Coupon Couple
My wife and I like to eat out and order in—a lot. I created a binder to sort our coupons, menus, restaurant reviews and more.
Picture Perfect
Things do not get easier to organize with time. As soon as we return from a vacation I sort and store photos in albums.
My Best-Seller List
I love books and I once had more than most bookstores. Now I keep only the best and toss (sell) the rest. Same with CDs.
Keep It Clean
It's a lot easier to clean with less clutter clogging up my living room. Cleaning the clutter also makes a room look larger.
Tools Of The Trade
Bins, baskets, boxes, shelves and hooks can make organizing easier. This is especially true in the garage.
Most Used, Easiest To Get To
The things that I use most often (surfboards) are easy to get to and everything else is stored out of the way.
Group Like Items Together
All my softball gear is stored in an empty trash can. (Bottom left.) Now it's easy to find what I need when I need it.
Garages Are For Cars
Some people's garages are so clogged with clutter they can't park cars in them. There is a remedy, it's called organization.
It's Nice To Be Labeled
I love my label maker and use it on all my bins and boxes. Now I can quickly know what's inside with without having to get it down.
Hawaiian Style
In Hawaii it's customary to remove your shoes before entering a home. That's why I keep a shoe rack by the door.
Organizing is Easy
If you truly want to get and stay organized, read and apply the techniques in Organizing From The Right Side Of The Brain.
